Concrete slabs and curbs in Montreal

A patio slab, a garage floor, an entrance, a shed base or parking curbs: Dahomey Construction forms and pours your concrete slabs and curbs in Montreal and the surrounding areas. We prepare the ground, build accurate forms, place the reinforcement and pour a concrete made for exterior use, with joints that control cracking. Based in Ahuntsic, our team can also demolish the old slab before pouring the new one.

What we do

Types of work: slabs and curbs

Poured concrete patio in a backyardType 01 · Slabs and curbs

Patio and entrance slabs

A patio or entrance slab must stay flat, shed water and resist frost. We dig, lay a compacted stone base, build forms with a slope that carries water away from the house, place the reinforcement and pour the concrete. The surface is finished smooth, broomed to be less slippery, or as you prefer. Control joints are cut so shrinkage cracks follow straight lines instead of appearing at random.

Garage and interior slabs

A garage floor or basement slab carries heavier loads and must stay level. We prepare the base, lay insulation and mesh when the project calls for it, and pour a slab with a thickness suited to its use. The finish is smooth and easy to clean. When an old slab has to go, our demolition team breaks it up and hauls it out before the new pour.

Foundation forms with reinforcementType 03 · Slabs and curbs

Foundation and base forming

Shed bases, equipment pads, small foundations and low walls: the forms decide the final shape of the concrete. We build solid forms, square and level, place the planned reinforcement and pour in one go whenever possible. Forms are removed once the concrete is hard enough, and exposed surfaces are finished cleanly.

Concrete curbs

Parking and landscape curbs separate asphalt, lawn and flower beds, and protect surfaces against wheels and snowplows. We pour them on site in forms, with a compacted base and regular joints. Damaged curbs can be broken up and redone on the same line.

Finishes and curing

Concrete gains its strength in the days after the pour. We protect the surface from sun, wind and cold depending on the season, and tell you when you can walk on it and then drive on it. The finish, smooth, broomed or textured, is chosen with you before the pour, because it cannot be changed afterwards. We also tell you how to care for the new concrete during its first winter.

Our approach

Concrete lasts because of what lies beneath

01.

A slab that cracks or sinks after a few winters almost always has a problem under the surface: poorly compacted soil, not enough thickness, no reinforcement or water pooling underneath and freezing.

02.

We give as much attention to preparation as to pouring: digging to the right depth, compacted stone, solid forms, reinforcement and slopes. This hidden work is what makes concrete last.

03.

In Montreal, exterior concrete faces frost, thaw and salt. We use concrete made for exterior use and plan the pour around the weather, so it does not freeze before it has hardened.

04.

Because we also do demolition, the old slab can be removed and the new one poured by the same team, with no waiting in between. You have only one schedule to follow and one point of contact, and the new slab is planned with the drainage around it in mind.

Clear answers

Frequently asked questions

How much does a concrete slab cost?

The price depends on the area, the thickness, the demolition needed, access and the finish. We prepare a detailed quote after the visit.

How thick should a patio or garage slab be?

A garage slab is thicker than a patio slab because it carries a vehicle. We specify the thickness and reinforcement in the quote.

When can I walk or drive on a new slab?

You can walk on it after a few days. Driving requires a longer wait. We give you the timing based on the weather.

Why are there joints in the slab?

Concrete shrinks as it cures and cracks. The joints guide those cracks into straight lines, where they do not show.

Do I need a permit for this work in Montreal?

It depends on the work and the borough. Many exterior projects require a permit from the borough. We check with you what applies before we start and tell you what steps to take.

Do you hold an RBQ licence?

Yes. Dahomey Construction holds RBQ licence 5825-5522-01. You can check it in the public registry of the Régie du bâtiment du Québec before the work starts.

How do I get a quote?

Fill out the form with a short description and a few photos of your project, or call us at (438) 544-0016. We book a visit to see the site, then we give you a written quote.
